María Elena Ríos Protests Against Governor in Oaxaca

María Elena Ríos, a survivor of an acid attack, protested in front of President Claudia Sheinbaum, accusing the governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara, of releasing her aggressor, former PRI deputy Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal. In a moving speech directed at the federal leader, María Elena expressed: "Today, Madam President, I want to tell you that I give up, because Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal is not in the hospital, the governor himself and Vera Carrizal win."

Amid boos, María Elena indicated that the demonstrators in front of her were "hired thugs" by the Morena governor. It is worth noting that the broadcast of the state television station "Cortv" was interrupted when María Elena took to the stage. In addition to María Elena Ríos' protest, parents of children with cancer also demonstrated, demanding medications and supplies for effective treatment.

María Elena denounced in several videos that Juan Antonio Vera was no longer at the private Santa Anita hospital where he had been admitted last December for alleged "unverified ailments". So far, judicial authorities have not provided information on the matter, and the current whereabouts of Juan Antonio Vera Carrizal are unknown.

Recall that on January 23, María Elena warned that her aggressor, Juan Antonio Vera, was free and had left the Santa Anita Hospital without prior notice. Vera Carrizal was released in December by federal order and transferred to the Reforma hospital, then admitted to the Santa Anita Hospital in Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, near the capital of Oaxaca. However, upon arriving at the hospital this time, María Elena confirmed that Vera Carrizal was no longer hospitalized.

In a video shared on her social media, María Elena expressed her indignation, accusing the government of Oaxaca of revictimizing her and favoring political agreements over justice. The young saxophonist denounced the corruption that, according to her, prevails in Oaxaca.
